Eduardo De Filippo (1900-1984) is generally regarded as the most representative figure of Southern Italian culture. Playwright, poet, actor, director and producer of both film and theatre, he was the author of 63 plays and, together with Pirandello helped to define the stature and range of twentieth-century Italian drama. His signature piece, The Nativity Scene (Natale in Casa Cupiello, 1931), originally written in Neopolitan is here presented for the first time in English translation.
