Once their businesses reach maturity, most entrepreneurs want to expand them but are unable to do so. Usually, they do not have the capital needed to expand their distribution networks. Franchising is the most effective way of distributing goods and services. In South Africa, the number of businesses that have expanded through franchising doubled between 1990 and 1997. Estimates show that franchises will continue to grow into the 21st century. This text aims to give South African entrepreneurs who do not have access to vast capital the information they need to grow and expand their enterprises.
