This book examines the development of the Big Bnag idea, the modern search for dark matter and the theory of inflation which says that the entire visible Universe was blown up from a seed smaller than an atom in a fraction of a second. It includes such exotic ideas as the theory that our universe was 'born'out of a black hole in another universe, and predicts that we stand on the brinkof the greatest revolution in science since Copernicus displaced the Earth from the centre of the Universe.
