Arkansas Smith: the name was legend. Once he had been a Texas Ranger, but now he was something else entirely. Some said he was an outlaw, a killer of men and a fast draw. Others claimed he was a kind of special lawman, dispensing frontier justice across the West and bringing law to the lawless. Arkansas Smith arrives in Red Rock looking for those who shot and left his friend for dead. He vows to leave no stone unturned in his quest to bring the gunmen to justice and, soon, those who go against him must face the legendary fast draw that helped tame the West.
Jake Preston, travelling with his wife and children, takes the Tumbleweed Trail, heading for Kansas City. And if the mile after mile of inhospitable terrain was not enough to contend with, there is the added complication of a gang of marauding bandits led by the notorious Sam Brady who have vowed to kill Jake and his entire family. The family have only one hope and that is the mysterious stranger named Arkansas Smith, a man who some claim is an outlaw himself, a violator of women, a man as cold-hearted as the bitter winds that blow across the trail. But there are others who swear he is some sort of special lawman, a man bringing gun justice to those who need it. There is only one certainty and that is that blood will flow along the Tumbleweed Trail.
Liberty Jones is tired of war - he fought hard in the Civil War, saw great suffering and endured much himself. Now all he wants is to be left in peace, but trouble has a way of finding him. He rides into the town of Red Rock to escape a marauding tribe of Indians, but any hopes of safety he may have held are soon dispelled. For the town is under military command and facing a gathering of great Indian tribes who are determined to drive the people from the town and reclaim their land. Liberty, along with a rag tag band of townspeople, must face impossible odds and soon blood will run deep in the streets of Red Rock.
