Studying how firms operate and an appreciation of how one deals with problems in the business world are an important part of a wide range of related courses: pre-vocational courses such as CPVE, TVEI and YTS, GCSE courses in Business studies, Economics and Industrial Studies and more general courses such as the World of Work, Industrial Awareness, Careers Education, simulated work experience and some areas of Social and Life Skill courses. Using a project undertaken by a "real" firm students are given an authentic context in which to discover how a firm operates and to develop the key skills of problem solving, decision making, numeracy and communication, as well as social skills. This book, accompanied by a photocopiable pack, provides 8 assignments which follow the production process from start to finish. Each assignment focuses on a specific function - tendering for an order, recruitment and training, cash flow, etc - and asks students to deal with problems as they arise.
