The Prophet Amos was faced with problems that may be familiar to many of us. Israel was booming, its boundaries expanding, and things were looking good. Below the surface however greed and injustice were festering and hypocritical religious motions had replaced true worship. Amos' unflinching warnings about sin and its effects were not popular, and Amos lived up to the meaning of his name - 'burden bearer' - we can learn much from what he had to say. Redemption - one of these words Christians tend to use a lot but can sometimes have a bit of a fuzzy idea what it actually means. The whole of the Christian Faith turns on this word, to redeem is to 'buy back' and it is God that is at work. On the cross, Christ bore the penalty for all our sins, so that those who trust in him may once more have a relationship with God. Christ was the means of redemption for us. Study this life changing truth, see what God has done for us, and give thanks! Geared for Growth study materials encourage:

Why are birds free in the air, fish in water? Because they are in their natural elements. Human beings are only free to really live when we are in our proper element. Find out what that is, and how you can find true freedom. This study explores different parts of the Bible which illustrate freedom through obedience, freedom from bondage, freedom despite circumstances, and freedom from fear and more. Paul is bewildered by the spiritual decline of the Galatians and so sets out to defend the gospel he delivered to Galatia as in-line with the rest of the church. He also tells them (and us) of the relationship between 'the law', faith and Christian liberty. These are still the arguments we have today! Legalism and the licence are still two extremes we need help with. Study Galatians to balance yor life. 1 & 2 Thessalonians are letters that have much to teach us today. We are reminded to persevere through the suffering we will face in this fallen world. We are warned not to be misled by speculation about his coming return. But most of all we are reminded that we must live for Christ and be ready for his return. Are you ready? In the first century AD many people became Christians, rejoiced in their newfound faith and then became bogged down with ritual, doubt or peer-pressure (sounds kinda familiar, doesn't it!). Hebrews provides answers for all of these problems and points us in the right direction for spiritual growth. Hebrews is really all about Jesus. God shows us that the best things he has provided for us, both in time and eternity, are through Christ. In today's world if there is one characteristic that seems to be ever more fashionable it is scepticism. The idea of ultimate truth is treated with suspicion and those who have certainty are considered a threat. If we look at the Bible however, we can see that we need to be sceptical of such scepticism!
The Epistles of John are counter-cultural. They maintain that there are things we can be absolutely sure about. We can be sure about the love of God, his redeeming work and that we can know him personally. These precious epistles have so much to offer the 21st Century Christian, let this study help you towards what will be a reinvigorating experience. Geared for Growth study materials encourage:

God's people are confident, overconfident in fact. They are pleased to have rebuilt the Temple but there are problems with the church, they are not behaving as they should - and God knows it. Through Malachi God tells his people what is wrong and that he is coming to purify his people and re-establish his covenant in their lives. Geared for Growth study materials encourage:

Abraham's life makes amazing reading. His Faith in God is inspiring even today. He was by no means perfect, but his failings help us to see a Man of God not as a remote and distant figure, but a fallible human, like the rest of us, except one with great faith. Abraham walked closely with God, his humility and trust in God brought him through many awkward situations and offer us many useful lessons.
