Paul urges we live out our faith - which should influence every area of life - as a living demonstration of Jesus; and with a boldness to get the message out. Although written to leaders of the fledgling Church we discover how relevant these letters are for us today. This study will challenge you to:

    2 Corinthians: Restoring harmony

One of the major themes of 2 Corinthians is reconciliation. False apostles had denigrated Paul's reputation and enticed the Corinthian believers to doubt his sincerity, his message and even his God-given apostleship. But instead of reacting with anger, Paul reveals his humility and largeness of heart as he seeks to build bridges between himself and the church, expressing his love for them, his concern for their spiritual wellbeing, and the need for them to have confidence in his apostleship.

We face similar challenges today, but with God's mighty help we too can demonstrate God's love and forgiveness to the watching sceptical world as we work at being reconciled to one another.

    1 Corinthians: Growing a Spirit-filled church.

In the first letter to the Corinthians, Paul addresses the problems of disunity, immorality, lawsuits, prostitution, marriage, Christian freedom, spiritual gifts and resurrection, and seeks to clarify the church's understanding of these issues. Even though it was written 2,000 years ago, Paul's letter is a rich resource for us in the twenty-first century as we seek to 'do church'. Our culture exerts enormous pressures on us as the Greco-Roman culture did on the Corinthian church and we are called to be counter-cultural people, demonstrating the power of the kingdom of God today.

    Positive choices in negative cultures

The core message of the story of Daniel is that God is in control. Daniel was taken to a country which was hostile to his faith and his culture, but he still lived boldly for God and this story is relevant to us today. Powerful entities and interest groups strive for our attention and our buying power. Just as Daniel's environment militated against his faith, so ours often does today.

Daniel resisted the temptation to culturalise and adopt Babylonian beliefs and customs, in spite of the fact that this nearly cost him his life. He remained faithful to God and chose not to conform. Through this series of seven studies, we can learn fom his courage as we make our own choices in seeking to live for God and communicate our faith to those around us.

We may encounter many different false teachings in daily life. How do we put aside our prejudices and seek the truth? Come afresh to Scripture and be open to learn, to evaluate and to grow.
