The "Guardian" Year

The past year has provided ample opportunity for the much vaunted independence of "The Guardian" in its coverage of the Scott Inquiry into arms sales to Iraq and the linkage of overseas aid to arms sales in Malaysia, the turbulent first year of the Clinton administration and the hopes and despair over peace talks in Northern Ireland. Additionally there has been the glitter of the Winter Olympics and the grubbiness of Back to Basics, the continuing of the suffering in Bosnia, and the ghosts of fascism that haunt Russia, Germany and, closer to home, the Isle of Dogs. All the major news stories, the wisest of the features and the best-loved of "The Guardian" regulars are here.
