The stories here help engender a sense of wonder and reverence at Christmas, particularly for small children. They have been told for many years and, like most stories passed down in the oral tradition, they have many and varied sources. The stories take us through Advent to Christmas, and on into the holy family's flight into Egypt. In addition, there are other stories not necessarily about the holy family, such as those about the fir tree. These stories are written specifically for reading aloud or, even better, for telling. Despite popular belief, telling stories from memory is not difficult! And repetition with a receptive audience is by far the best practice.
