In 1996, Buckingham Palace will open again for two months in the summer, and the public will have a chance to see behind the famous gates. This is the official guidebook to the Palace. It contains an informative text on the long history of the house before it became the home of Queen Victoria, its transformation since then and on the running of the palace today. The book, fully illustrated in colour throughout, describes the rooms open to the public, outlines their history and their use, and reveals the paintings and furniture within the rooms, previously unseen by most. The rooms include the throne room, the state dining room, the blue drawing room, and the picture gallery as well as many others, and reveals to us all the splendid settings in which the state occasions are held.
