Rudolf Bultmann (1884-1976) was a prolific and wide-ranging writer. Best known as a New Testament critic, he also contributed to systematic theology, history, philosophy and hermeneutics. His work influenced several generations of Christian theologians. This work provides a scholarly survey of Bultmann's life and work. It explores the historical context of his ideas explaining their nature and significance. In addition, it evaluates his thinking from the perspective of contemporary theology.
