Book 3

Regulatory requirements, particularly in the United States, have required increasing levels of wastewater treatment because of health and environmental concerns. Such treatment requirements not only impact water discharge effluent quality, but have created the problem for the disposal of waste water solids (sludge), which have other potential far-reaching environmental effects. This volume considers the generation of sludge, the management problems associated with the various types of sludge, and applicable methods available for treatment and disposal of sludge.
