First published in 1920, "Samplers and Stitches" has become a classic handbook for embroiderers. The stitches are arranged in groups such as flat stitches, looped stitches, chained stitches, knotted stitches, composite stitches, canvas stitches and drawn fabric stitches. There are also chapters on blackwork, cut and drawn work, couching, applique and quilting. All the stitches are explained with detailed text an diagrams, and the photographs illustrate the use of stitches in finished patterns and old embroideries.
