With a chapter by Julia Phillipson This book examines the paradox that power and control of personal social service organisations are retained by men, even though caring and support roles are overwhelmingly in the hands of women. The book discusses what can be done by women and men to stop this resulting waste of women's talents. The themes of care and control are central to this book. Patterns of men's and women's careers and the common problems faced by women managers are discussed; management style is looked at; power and its use and abuse (often problematic for women) is explored. The book concludes with suggestions for strategies to encourage more women into management.
