The Hospital

Have you ever visited a hospital? Many children will spend time in hospitals for one reason or another during their early years. In The Hospital each page explores a different aspect of what children can expect if they go to a hospital. Each picture shows the experience in a positive and realistic fashion. Children from various familial, cultural and ethnic backgrounds experience daily hospital activities like having an x-ray, getting a needle or staying overnight in a special bed. Learn how hospitals help when we are sick or hurt.

The "Talk-About-Books" series was designed to enhance a young child's first collection of books. Each book in the series explores a different aspect of the young child's world using real-life photographs that depict a variety of children in different natural settings. This innovative series grew out of a desire to provide children -- all children -- with the opportunity to see themselves within the books they are reading and to better identify with the children and families they are looking at. The diversity of today's society is clearly captured. Since publication of the first two volumes, over 500,000 "Talk-About-Books" have been sold.

The simple text and engaging photographs invite and encourage discussion, creating opportunities for developing language and literacy.
