This pupils' core text book is designed to be used in Key Stage 3 from Year 7. While some children will have no further use for it after Year 7, it is expected that a substantial number will use it in Years 7, 8 and 9. Containing a number of themes of work which can be carried out in the order decided by the teacher, it covers craft, design and technology (CDT), home economics, business studies and art and design, thus fulfilling the requirements for the national curriculum in design and technology. Full details for teachers explaining how to use the book are in the Key Stage 3 Teacher's file.

STEP 5-16 Design and Technology is a major educational development from the Staffordshire Design and Technology Education Programme. It is designed to help teachers to deliver the national curriculum for design and technology. That's nice! focuses on the various stages of designing a product, from initial design ideas through to building a prototype. These stages include creating original images and developing and presenting design ideas, with attention being given to the aesthetic aspect of design. The book contains many suggestions for projects and activities in different areas.

STEP 5-16 Design and Technology is a major educational development from the Staffordshire Design and Technology Education Programme. It is designed to help teachers to deliver the national curriculum for design and technology. People and places looks at how technology has developed to suit the needs of people from many different countries and cultures. The technology discussed relates to the areas of celebrations and festivals; music; natural resources; food; building design; furnishings; toys and games; and transport. The final chapter looks at some of the successes and failures when applying western technology in other situations. This book is fully indexed and is suitable for work at all levels of key stage 3, and with years 5 and 6 of key stage 2.

STEP 5-16 Design and Technology is a major educational development from the Staffordshire Design and Technology Education Programme. It is designed to help teachers to deliver the national curriculum for design and technology. Food for thought explores the various stages in the development of 'new' food products in a way which mirrors the commercial process. Creative ideas with food are then developed with the design of systems for the batch production of food products, including the modelling of production lines. The book provides many opportunities for design activities which are explored in depth, as well as taking a structured approach to key areas.

Food for Thought is the second context book to be published for key stage 3 of the national curriculum course, STEP 5-16 Design and Technology. It develops work on food products introduced in the Core text for key stage 3. The book focuses on the various stages of producing a new food product, from initial idea to product launch. It also discusses the use of systems. This is developed to enable pupils to design their own food production system as a stimulus for using mechanics, electronics, pneumatics, systems analysis and business studies. The final chapter introduces the design of biosystems to grow plants, make yoghurt and ginger beer. The book is in full colour with the same exciting design and high standards of What a Performance! and the Core text.
