Book 1
It's the American West of the 1800's, and in the heart of America's untamed new frontier lurks an evil force, the Faceless, awaiting its return to power. Only two men, warriors from two different cultures, can stand together to defeat the evil. Gabriel Tyler, a reckless gunslinger, and a Native-American shaman, Jonathan Fivehawk, meet when Gabriel, injured during a gun battle, stumbles into Jonathan's camp one night. Initially suspicious of each other, Fivehawk dresses Gabriel's wounds with his medicines and they realise they are both headed in the same direction: Stonetree, once a thriving frontier town, now a ghost town
Book 2
After saving the town of Stonetree from abduction by the sinister rail baron Robur Drache, servant of the Faceless, gunslinger Tyler and Indian shaman Fivehawk have tracked the villain to the Burnt Hills mine. Both are searching for family members kidnapped by Drache's minions, and Tyler knows that his paternal Uncle Bill is being held in the prison camp set up around the mine. Fivehawk searches for allies in a legendary tribe of Indian warriors and Tyler bluffs his way into the heart of the enemy camp. But the chief of the tribe refuses to help Fivehawk and Tyler, so Tyler sets out alone to rescue his uncle.

Evil men are exploiting the riches of the West in order to bring that awakening about, using strange machinery and fantastic devices to further their ends. Gunslinger Gabriel Tyler and Indian shaman Jonathan Fivehawk have tracked the evil rail baron Robur Drache, to Winterville, high in the snow-covered mountains of the north. In his service to the Faceless, Drache has a legion of immigrant workers constructing a railroad which seems to have no start and no destination...While Tyler wonders after Drache's plan, Fivehawk is distracted by his own concerns; somewhere nearby is Eyes-Like-Amber, his sister, abducted by Drache's outriders for reasons unknown. Meanwhile, a young Chinese girl named Yu Lim is also investigating Drache's intents, with a duty of her own to follow.
