Napoleon wrote some 60,000 letters of which some 41,000 survive. This selection of 300 letters range throughout Napoleon's career, from the 15-year-old artillery trainee to the exiled Emperor, aged 46. The letters include: his precise military instruction on the eve of one of his 60 battles; his notes to the Empress Josephine, reproving her for jealousy; and discussions of the principles of local government or the education of women.
