Oasis Station

by Dee Garretson

Published 14 June 2018

The prequel to the science fiction Torch World series. Deep space Oasis waystations are supposed to be welcome refuges from the hardships of long distance space travel, but the promised comforts at Serenity Blue base hide some ugly realities. Quinn Neen didn’t even plan on being at Serenity in the first place. He’s traveling from Earth to join his family at a classified research site, but when the transport ship he’s on has mechanical problems, it’s forced to land. While his shipmates are eager to check out the diversions, Quinn knows he's going to have to be careful-he needs to keep his identity a secret. Being the grandson of the most powerful man in Earth’s military has taught Quinn that too people will try to exploit that connection for their own benefit.

On first appearances, the station seems normal. On closer inspection, Quinn can tell the whole structure is falling apart. Parts of it have been closed off and there are rumors of people disappearing on the lower levels. When an explosion is explained away as an equipment malfunction and a dead body is brushed off as an unimportant worker, Quinn realizes Serenity is not a refuge at all.

Before the ship can be repaired, Quinn runs into a girl he used to know on Earth and he begins to learn the truth about the waystation. It leaves him with a hard choice: stay quiet and find a way off, or do what’s right and help fight someone else’s battle. One wrong move could destroy the whole station and everyone on it. A space opera adventure in a dystopian world.

Station Fosaan

by Dee Garretson

Published 14 February 2017

Earth scientists and their families stationed on the remote planet of Fosaan were promised a tropical vacation-like experience. But Fosaan, devastated from an apocalyptic event nearly three-hundred years ago, is full of lethal predators and dangerous terrain.

Earthers are forbidden to go beyond the safety zone of their settlement and must not engage the small population of reclusive Fosaanians, descendants of the survivors. Sixteen-year-old Quinn Neen plans to do both of those things.

When Quinn discovers a beautiful Fosaanian girl named Mira stealing food from his family’s living unit, he soon learns Earth’s government may not be telling the whole truth about Fosaan and the cause of the past disaster.

There are some who to restore the planet to its former glory by any means necessary. Quinn finds himself caught between his loyalty to his own people and what is right for Mira and her people.

Before he can decide what to do, the scientists are taken captive, stranding the young Earthers on Fosaan.

Quinn must go from renegade to leader and convince Mira to become an ally in a fight against an enemy whose very existence threatens their lives and the future of those both on Fosaan and at home.

Book 3

Paradox Hunt

by Dee Garretson

Published 6 August 2019

The galaxy is on the brink of chaos. Earth has grown repressive over the centuries, touting democratic principles while ruling with an iron fist.

Sixteen-year-old Quinn Neen has discovered the truth behind the façade of Earth’s stronghold on the galaxy, and he’s determined not to become part of the elite who allow the horrors to continue.

Centuries earlier, Earth secretly annihilated an empire on the distant planet of Fosaan. Unbeknownst to most, some of the ruling family survived. Ansun, a descendant of Fosaan’s last emperor, wants to destroy Earth’s hold on the galaxy and bring his planet back to formidable power. But Ansun intends to rule with the same ruthlessness of past Fosaanian leaders, something Earth will not allow. So to enhance his small military force, Ansun’s stolen some of Earth’s most valuable tech, powerful robots with a breakthrough version of artificial intelligence. If he gets the chance to use it, he should be able to render Earth’s military useless.

Quinn is firmly caught in the middle of the conflict when he befriends Ansun’s niece Mira. Under different circumstances, Quinn and Mira might have become a real couple, if they’d only had time together to get to know each other. But now, Mira’s allegiance to the Fosaanian people must come first.
