This is a collection of recent critical writing on Edmund Spenser. The essays cover the whole of Spenser's work, from such early literary experiments as "The Shepeardes Calendar" to his unfinished crowning work "The Faerie Queene". The introduction provides a review of critical responses to Spenser, setting his work and the debates which it has generated in their respective contexts: hew historicist, post-structural, psychoanalytic and feminist. The study also covers the critical responses of leading British, Irish and American scholars.
