The design for the Jewish Community Centre in New Jersey which Louis Kahn began in 1955 epitomizes the essential forms for which he is known. The Trenton Bath House, the best-known component of this project, embodies a simple scale that shows Kahn's work at its most elemental. This book explores not only the formal aspects of the building, but also the political history of its construction, the social issues of suburbanization and the post-World War II Jewish community and Kahn's personal relationship with his Jewish heritage.
