Cook, Peter

by Peter Cook

Published 18 March 1993
Peter Cook's influence on the course of contemporary architecture has been far-reaching, in his capacity as a teacher and as a lecturer on the international circuit, as well as in his own dynamic and atmospheric architectural projects. This monograph follows Peter Cook's career from his earlier work with the famous Archigram Group, which was selected to represent Britain at the Paris Biennale in 1967, through to his highly successful partnership with Christine Hawley. It provides an insight into his aims and achievements, his individual projects and collaborations with others. A believer in the need for an "experimental" element in architecture and of an "art-architecture", Peter Cook discusses, in the essays published here, the ideologies and recurrent themes and motifs with which he has been preoccupied in his work. The many varied projects featured in this illustrated edition include Addhox, Way Out West - Berlin, Trickling Towers, Layer City, World Trade Center Berlin, Osaka Folly and Dampstead.
