Indigenous and innovative, the Little Library Maths Kit introduces literacy and maths skills to children aged 5-9 years. The boxed set contains sixty full-colour story books, (multiple copies of ten titles), teaching posters, audio-tapes, activity cards and translations into 9 South African languages. Durable and portable, the colourful box serves as a teaching resource in its own right, which opens up to form a puppet theatre and poster stand. The stories encourage a creative response to language teaching and learning, and introduce maths concepts in the familiar context of stories. The Little Library is the recipient of the 1996 internationally-acclaimed Ibby-Asahi Award for the Promotion of Reading.
