The Rhone Valley and Savoy

by Rex Grizell

Published 1 March 1991
A guide to the river that flows through France for 600 kilometres, west from Lake Geneva to Lyons, then due south to the Mediterranean. The author explores the region in depth, evokes the glories of its ancient past, and describes the amenities of its lively present. The book includes a guide to the towns, villages, and countryside; recommended hotels and restaurants; and full details of museums, galleries, sports and leisure facilities.

This series of guide books covers the whole of France, region by region. They are designed as practical reference books and each contains an account of the region's history, a section on food and drink and a narrative tour of the region's notable features - cities, villages, chateaux, churches, monuments and areas of outstanding natural beauty. Each region is divided into several sub-regions, and at the end of each sub-region there is a list of recommended hotels and restaurants across a wide price range, plus sports and leisure facilities, museums and art galleries. Other titles in the series include guides to the Loire Valley, Dordogne and Lot and Languedoc and Roussillon.
