Tales from the Afterworld begins. In the opening 4 book volume, Touch of Pestilence, Ryan Mender, a descendant of a Ute medicine man, rescues a mysterious woman, named Mary DeMure, from a Colorado Lake. In the process of saving her, recently awakened powers within Ryan accidentally cure her of a pestilent touch, only to turn him into a carrier.
