The Reverend Jonas Faulkner, pastor of the First Claremont Presbyterian Church in Texas, is a man with a secret: in his younger days he was a notorious gunman, involved in a horrific massacre causing the deaths of many children. So, when a party of young girls travelling to an orphanage in Claremont, is seized by a Kiowa raiding party, Pastor Faulkner knows he must act. Seeking redemption for his violent past, the elderly clergyman is still a force to be reckoned with, and he's prepared to go toe to toe with anyone standing in his way.
Jed Harker wishes for nothing more than to mind his own business while travelling north to Kansas. In the summer of 1861 though, men and women were taking sides all across the United States and Harker finds himself compelled to declare where he stands on slavery. The result is that he finds himself fleeing through the Indian Nations; helping a family of escaping slaves to freedom. Marshal Jedediah Flynn has resigned his office and is determined to become a church minister. While travelling to take up a place at a theological college in Illinois, however, he stumbles across a crime which he cannot ignore. It seems that before he can devote himself to the Lord's work, the marshal wil be compelled to take up arms one last time.
