Frontier reporter Brady Kenton and his sidekick Alex Gunnison made their exciting return in Firefall. One year later, after Brady Kenton's discovery that his long-missing wife, Victoria, apparently had not been killed in the train wreck many years before, the travelling reporter Kenton and his sidekick Alex Gunnison are called back to Leadville, Colorado. They are assigned to cover a gala event to be held in the new Tabor Grand Hotel, which opened that year. At the last moment, however, Kenton bows out after he hears from a magazine editor friend of his that a possible clue about Vitoria has arisen, oddly enough, in a novel, written by an unknown author and published as a serialized magazine article.
