This title presents a journey into the world of trains and railways - from their origins to the present-day high-speed "Bullet Train" from Japan. The book explores the imapact trains have had on society over their 200 year history, and sees what the future holds for this type of transportation. Photographs and illustrations attempt to capture the spirit of train travel past and present, and provide an insight into how different types of trains work. Step-by-step projects and model-making experiments are included which also help explain ideas such as how the whells stay on the track, how the different propulsion mechanisms work and how the tunnels and bridges are built. The book is aimed at supplementing the National Curriculum science, design and technology and history specifications at Key Stage 2.
