Slightly Invisible

by Lauren Child

Published 7 October 2010
“Adults will recognize a spot-on portrayal of children’s imagination games, while kids will recognize the underwater, outer space, and mountainous territories that their homes become every day through play.” — Kirkus Reviews

Charlie and his friend Marv have invented an invisibility potion to help them find strange and tricky creatures, which they would prefer to do without Charlie’s little sister, Lola, bothering and interrupting. But when Lola enlists a bit of help from her invisible friend, Soren Lorensen, it turns out that the strange and tricky creatures have met their match in one very resourceful, inventive little sister.

The creator of the acclaimed Clarice Bean, That's Me cooks up a droll and ingenious treat for picky eaters and the people who love them.

Lola is a fussy eater. A very fussy eater. She won't eat her carrots (until big brother Charlie reveals that they are really orange twiglets from Jupiter). She won't eat her mashed potatoes (until Charlie explains they are cloud fluff from the pointiest peak of Mount Fuji). There are many, many things Lola absolutely will not eat, including — and especially — tomatoes. Or will she?

Join two endearing siblings for a smorgasbord of fun in Lauren Child's witty story about the triumph of imagination over proclivity.

Published 7 January 2010
The day of the school concert, Lola and Lotta are practicing the song they're going to perform when Lola gets a bad case of the hiccups. Everyone tries to help her get rid of them, but nothing works. Will Lola be able to stop hiccuping in time for the show?

Bedtime balkers will laugh at Lola's antics, while grown-ups offer a silent cheer for her savvy brother.

Night owl Lola likes to stay up coloring and scribbling and wriggling and bouncing and chattering. Lola never gets tired. How can her patient big brother, Charlie, convince her it's time for bed? Lauren Child splashes her offbeat humor and unique artwork all over this bedtime story in a delightful edition filled with pop-up surprises.
