Based on the small version of "Blooming Cats", this is intended as a whole class teaching resource used by teachers to teach reading and writing conventions. It is recommended by the NLS for use in the shared reading session of the reading hour, particularly at Key Stage 1. It tells the story of a lonely old man whose chief pleasure is feeding his special friends - the playground cats. The book is a good example of a "happy ending" story, it is strong on characterization, and on using place and setting to create an atmosphere.
