Cookery is a popular activity in nursery and reception classes. This book aims to provide inspiration in the form of new recipe ideas, including cookery from stories, celebrations and other countries. It shows the learning potential of each recipe and linking follow-up ideas to other areas of the curriculum. The recipes cover hot, cold, savoury and sweet food. Points such as safety, hygiene requirements, allergies, multicultural and religious concerns are also covered.
The aim of this book for teachers of 3-6 year olds is to provide opportunities for early years children to develop mathematical knowledge and skills through play and games. The games are grouped by main mathematical content area which include: colours, handling data, shapes, space, number, patterns, measures, calculators. Instructions are given for what is needed and how to play each game, as well as ways to vary the games and ideas for following up or expanding the initial activity.

It gives practical advice on how to present children's work including ideas for techniques, materials, planning and execution. All ideas are specially devised for the early years and are linked to the National Curriculum. Chapters on how, where and why displays should be used, how the teacher should co-ordinate display work and the ways in which displays can be linked to the National Curriculum are included.

Although the acitivites in each section would form a progression, each can be used on its own. In addition the book provides some ideas for introducing children to artists' work in relation to the element.
