Book 183

This classic treatment of linear algebra presents the fundamentals in the clearest possible way, examining basic ideas by means of computational examples and geometrical interpretation. It proceeds from familiar concepts to the unfamiliar, from the concrete to the abstract. Readers consistently praise this outstanding text for its expository style and clarity of presentation. * The applications version features a wide variety of interesting, contemporary applications. * Clear, accessible, step-by-step explanations make the material crystal clear. * Established the intricate thread of relationships between systems of equations, matrices, determinants, vectors, linear transformations and eigenvalues.

Elementary Linear Algebra

by Howard Anton

Published 1 January 1973
This is a combined version of Anton and Rorres' "Applications of Linear Algebra" and Anton's "Elementary Linear Algebra" into one practical, flexible text. It incorporates 20 applications drawn from business, economics, engineering, physics, computer science, sociology and numerous other disciplines. The applications are self-contained, giving instructors the flexibility to choose those that are best suited to their students and to incorporate them anywhere in the course after the mathematical prerequisites covered in the first section of the text have been met. Also included is an expanded variety of exercise sets, both computational and conceptual, beginning with drill problems and progressing to more theoretical problems. The chapter on numerical methods has been completely rewritten to include a new section on LU-decomposition. Also added is a new section comparing various methods for solving linear systems in terms of the number of operations they require.

The 10th edition of Calculus Single Variable continues to bring together the best of both new and traditional curricula in an effort to meet the needs of even more instructors teaching calculus. The author team's extensive experience teaching from both traditional and innovative books and their expertise in developing innovative problems put them in an unique position to make this new curriculum meaningful for those going into mathematics and those going into the sciences and engineering. This new text exhibits the same strengths from earlier editions including an emphasis on modeling and a flexible approach to technology.

Work more effectively and check solutions as you go along with the text! This Student Solutions Manual that is designed to accompany "Anton's Calculus: Late Transcendentals, Single and Multivariable, 8th edition" provides students with detailed solutions to odd-numbered exercises from the text. Designed for the undergraduate Calculus I-II-III sequence, the eighth edition continues to evolve to fulfill the needs of a changing market by providing flexible solutions to teaching and learning needs of all kinds. The new edition retains the strengths of earlier editions such as Anton's trademark clarity of exposition, sound mathematics, excellent exercises and examples, and appropriate level. Anton also incorporates new ideas that have withstood the objective scrutiny of many skilled and thoughtful instructors and their students.
