Freshman Todd gets to try out for the varsity soccer team that his best friend plays for, but when two junior teammates bully Todd and he moves to a rival school, he is forced to confront the bullies--and play against his best friend.
Eleven-year-old Matty, an average soccer player, volunteers to play goalie rather than sit on the bench, and with hard work, practice, and coaching he becomes very good but still fears he will let his team down in the big game.
