The activities in the book aim to enable children to use pictures, symbols or isolated letters, words or phrases to communicate meaning; independently to produce pieces of writing using complete sentences, some of them demarcated with capital letters and full stops or question marks; to structure sequences of real or imagined events coherently in chronological accounts; to write stories showing an understanding of the rudiments of story structure by establishing an opening, characters and one or more events; and to produce simple coherent non-chronological writing.
