Science 7-11

by Jim Fitzsimmons and Rhona Whiteford

Published October 1990
A practical teacher's resource, this text is specifically written to fulfill all the requirements of the national curriculum in science for primary schools. Intended for all teachers, particularly non-science specialists, it provides comprehensive coverage in an easy-to-follow format. Full of practical ideas, it gives children meaningful, relevant things to do. "Blueprints: Science 5-7" provides activities for key stage 1. "Blueprints: Science 7-11" includes activities for key stage 2. For each key stage there is a "Teacher's Resource Book" and a book of "Pupils' Copymasters", which closely follow the structure of the publication "Science in the National Curriculum" (HMSO, 1989). The "Teacher's Resource Book" is arranged in sections, each corresponding to work at a level of the national curriculum; the "Pupils' Copymasters" match some of the activities at each of the levels. One feature of the "Teachers Resource Book" is a topic planner chart listing many of the topics in common use. Alongside each topic title is an indicator to show at which levels and in which Attainment Targets (ATs) there is work which can easily make a contribution to the topic.
With practical explorations and activities through key stage 2, the text sections relate to work expected of children through the key stage, i.e., levels 2, 3, 4 and 5.

Offering a wide-ranging collection of Christmas-related activities, resources and curriculum materials for use with pupils aged from five to seven years, this book consists of ideas for teachers and a supply of photocopiable resources. Although the materials are structured, where appropriate, around the requirements of the National Curriculum, they may be used by teachers of the specified age group, whether they are following National Curriculum courses or not. The first part of the book provides resources for performances of all kinds, including poems, songs, games and four plays; the second contains 28 photocopiable sheets with accompanying teacher's notes on Christmas writing, artwork and displays; and the final part has a collection of topic materials for use in the half-term before Christmas.

Designed for use with infant and nursery children between the ages of three and six, this book, which contains 115 photocopiable sheets, provides skill-based material for all relevant areas of the curriculum leading up to Level 1 of the National Curriculum (Level A in Scotland). This includes pre-writing, reading and early number work, as well as an introduction to science. The book also contains material for parents, and record sheets. The photocopiable sheets are backed by teacher's notes which outline possible uses for the pages.

Topics

by Jim Fitzsimmons and Rhona Whiteford

Published February 1993
This teacher resource book is designed for practical classroom use with 5-8 year olds. It provides full resources for ten core infant topics, ranging from colour and shape to knights and castles. The book includes 70 photocopiable and copyright-free activity sheets. There are also topic flowcharts and lists of the basic concepts which each topic introduces. Topics are provided at three levels of difficulty, roughly reflecting the three infant age groups. The topics in the first section adopt an egocentric and experimental approach, whereas subsequent topics begin to provide opportunity for greater development of skills and more extensive use of the imagination. The ideas for work in each topic are designed to fit in with general expectations of attainment for that age group. All elements of the National Curriculum's core and foundation subjects for primary schools have been incorporated into these topics, which aim to be cross-curricular.
