The Op. 39 Waltzes were composed by Johannes Brahms in 1865. Originally intended as piano duets, the composer arranged simplified versions of the duets for solo piano two years later and it is these that are published here. The Waltzes are perhaps the least demanding of Brahms's output for piano, and their strongly contrasted moods provide an ideal and attractive introduction to the music of this great composer.
This collection by Terry Greaves takes a good-humoured look at ten nursery tunes and reclothes them in a variety of popular styles. Swing, Rock and Latin beats propel these pieces forwards to provide some excellent light-hearted or encore fare. A second collection is published as More Swinging Rhymes.
