A singular look at Orozco’s itinerant studio practice, from the materials he collects on his travels to the finished works pulled from gallery storage

Published in a dos-à-dos format, Spacetime/Working Tables simultaneously focuses on two different but related projects by Gabriel Orozco (born 1962). Orozco’s practice is grounded in his encounters with nature and the matter of everyday life. He keeps no permanent studio space; instead, he usually works at some kind of table at home or on the grass in his garden. The Working Tables are an accumulation of various objects, sketches, models and leftovers of his art making. They give a sense of Orozco’s working process in a particular environment and his subsequent experimentation. The other half of the book focuses on Spacetime, a long-term, temporary exhibition that brought together a large selection of his work accumulated from over 30 years of living in New York and exhibiting with Marian Goodman Gallery. The show consisted of items from the artist’s personal collection and gallery inventory turned into open storage.
