Quirky Cat
Book Summary:
Jessica Jones has had many names over the years. These days, she prefers to be known as a private investigator. It pays the bills - enough to keep herself distracted from her past.
Jessica’s latest case is something else entirely. It will send her to a new country, all in hopes of finding the truth about what happened to two “perfect” teenagers. While digging into their case, she’ll find a much darker secret lurking underground.
My Review:
Is this really happening? In my hands, I hold a book I never expected to have. It’s a Jessica Jones tale, but it’s also written by a well-known thriller author! My dreams (that I didn’t even know I had) have come true.
Breaking the Dark is the first novel in the new Marvel Crime series (yes, more are planned!). As a huge fan of this character (comics and Netflix series), I’m thrilled to get a full-length novel.
That said, I want to clarify something. Usually, Marvel books, comics, and movies are distinct. So this isn’t the exact same character seen in the comics or the Netflix series. She’s still got all the broad strokes we love about her, but many details might be different.
I really loved seeing a thriller author’s take on Jessica Jones’ world. Lisa Jewell did a solid job of it. I only have a few qualms (Luke Cage felt passive, some of the character direction and focus, etc.).
Overall, I really enjoyed the adventure found on these pages. It was different and daring, and sometimes, that’s the best part about diving into a new Marvel story. I can’t wait to see what the next two books (Luke Cage and Daredevil) give us.
