How to access the checklist:

The spreadsheet is attached to the PDF document, which we recommend for use with Adobe Reader (rather than a web browser or other PDF reader). Please open the PDF and look for the paperclip symbol, which (in Adobe Reader) should be on the toolbar to the left-hand side of the screen. Further information about the guide:

Buildings are complex entities with numerous systems that need to be properly maintained in order to perform their function effectively, efficiently and safely.

BSRIA's Statutory Compliance Inspection Checklist is a spreadsheet listing tests, checks and inspections that are required on building services systems required by legislation, Approved Codes of Practice and/or supporting guidance. In addition to the spreadsheet, the guide includes general information about legislation in the UK and guidance on how to use the spreadsheet.

This guide will help facilities managers to plan statutory inspections, ensure compliance with legislation, and ultimately ensure the buildings they are responsible for are safe to occupy.

The spreadsheet is organised by task. For each task (test, check or inspection), the following information is provided:

System
Asset
Minimum required frequency
Skill level or qualification required
Recording and record retention period
Legislation requiring the task to be carried out
Approved Code of Practice, guidance document or standard giving details of the task
