Quirky Cat
Summary:
Towa has spent the last few years living in present-day Japan. In truth, it's all she can remember – literally. The days before her arrival are blank to her. She and her family know that there's something more going on with her sudden appearance, but until recently, they could only guess.
One day, that all changes. When Towa's twin sister (Setsuma) and her cousin come through the gate, hunting a monster. Now Towa has a choice. Stay home (safe), or follow. We all know which option she'll pick.
Review:
I've been tempted (but on the fence) about Yashahima for a while now. But I finally caved and dove into Yashahima: Princess Half-Demon Vol. 1. In truth, this experience was...mixed for me. There were parts I adored and parts I couldn't run away from fast enough.
Let's talk about the good first. Towa's character is pretty interesting all on her own (even in the present setting). Throw in the mystery of where her parents (and aunt/uncle) have gone, and you have plenty of reasons to invest in the series. I'll admit more than a passing curiosity about Setsuma and her subplot.
Admittedly, it did take me a little bit to get into the swing of things. By around the halfway mark, I was getting really into the story when it all came to a screeching halt for me. I'll just say it: I'm not a fan of who Towa's mother is. It feels far too much like grooming and puts a bad feeling over the whole series.
