Proceed With Caution:
This book contains mentions of human trafficking and sexual slavery.
The Basics:
Barbarian's Rescue continues with this new set of women. I'd recommend at least reading from Barbarian's Choice onward, but you should really start at the beginning, because it's awesome. This picks up right where the last left off, with Summer and Warrek noticing that the homeworlder ship has returned.
My Thoughts:
I was certainly eager to know why the ship was back after the captain said they'd never return. Well, Barbarian's Rescue answers that question right away and it's nothing good! The ship has been hijacked, and the crew is not friendly. Thankfully, Summer and Warrek were away at the fruit cave and have time to devise a plan to rescue the others before it's too late.
Barbarian's Rescue was super fun in the beginning. Summer just can't turn her mouth off once she gets going, and Warrek is just so quiet. But the two work very well together, since Summer is also extremely smart. Brains and brawn to the rescue! Although, the rescue is over way too quickly. I was expecting Summer and Warrek to face many challenges in saving their friends, and then with the high of success start resonating! That doesn't happen. The rescue is over, and surprise!
The surprise reveal kind of took over the rest of the story. Summer and Warrek were still front and center, but I felt distracted by all of the new information. This is really going to shake up the tribe once this second rescue mission is complete. I think this reveal would have been better off as the ending, so we can really focus on the romance, and then be excited for the next book. It was all kind of backwards. I still enjoyed Barbarian's Rescue, but it just wasn't a favorite.
