I’m conflicted about the What If? Series they’re doing right now. On the one hand it’s kind of interesting to see all these concepts thrown upside down. On the other some of them are coming off as feeling rather forced.
This issue explores the idea of Thor being raised by Frost Giants, as opposed to Loki being raised by the Asgardians. That wasn’t the only change they made though, and I feel compelled to point it out. In this plot, Loki is alive and well, despite Odin’s lack of interference. That’s a fairly big deal, and one that is left unexplained. Are the Frost Giants suddenly more compassionate? Is that why they didn’t leave Loki to die? And is that why they took Thor in? I have so many questions.
It was an interesting read, on the whole. But not one that really captured my attention strongly. I may or may not end up reading the other What If issues, though I’m sort of leaning against it at the moment.
