The story elements are interesting and well developed from head to the end of the stilettos as Ms. Dark's key characters investigate and handle the mysterious murder case, cheating mates, kidnapping as the like..
Diana Street is a hard nose detective who has no time for soft talk and BS. Diana is the classic dominant fem and demands to be obeyed. If you break the rules, commit the crime you had better be ready for the consequences.
Ms. Dark's characters, dialogue and creation of mystery, suspense and action revolving the murder is rich and entertaining with realism. I love the depth of diversity in her characters: Diane, Grace, Mona, Ruby Lauren. I relish the fact that Ms. Dark does not make excuses for having a strong, heavy handed leading woman such as Diane. Diane's expectations are clear and unpretentious. I definitely connected with Diane's attitude and strength of character.
I must caution you the Spanking Detective gets it in with frequent BDSM activities. If you are an adult reader who processes love for mystery, sensuality, strong leading lady but a bite squeamish about the BDSM scene this exciting book may not be to your liking. However, I think even the the slightly resistant reader of BDSM will find themselves hooked on the antics and manner in which Diane Street holds the reins on obedience in the work place, crime and punishment in fine fashion.
As I read The Spanking Detective: The Case of the Killer Heels I could hear snippets of Janet Jackson's song Discipline. Diane Street definitely made Mona and the other temps in her office pay for their lack of foresight. Ms. Dark sweetly sprinkles in plenty of the pleasures of being disciplined and aptly detailed them in The Spanking Detective: The Case of the Killer Heels.
The Spanking Detective: The Case of the Killer Heels is a smoking hot read with plenty of sizzle and I enjoyed the spankings but was glad not to be on the receiving end. (smile)
