This book was awful. I don’t say that about many books but this book is in that category. I’m not even sure what genre this was in, was it suspense, mystery, I just wasn’t sure. Rape is a very tough subject to talk about let alone include in a fictional story. I found it very difficult to get through for a number of reasons.
Donna is a successful business woman and who is also nearly engaged to be married. As she’s walking to the subway at night, she is accosted by a masked man, beaten and raped. This book is the story of her journey to overcome this horrible situation. The book was written in the British dialect so it was difficult to understand some of the things going on. I found there wasn’t much flexibility in the characters and the dialog between characters was often choppy and didn’t flow well.
We don’t meet the male nurse who’s supposed to save her until 50 percent into the book. The first part of the book was very detailed but after we get past the halfway point, the scenes were being fast-forward into increments of months. I couldn’t keep track of time. At times I was lost; I didn’t know how much time was passing. The premise of the book was what kept me reading but the execution of the story was poor.
