Cocktails and Books

What's sexier than a firefighter and a doctor? Honestly? Not much. This was my first book by this particular author and I have to be honest, I couldn't have done better. I absolutely loved the characters. The fact that they were what some would call men's men made it a bit more enjoyable me. It would be difficult to envision a firefighter as being effeminate, even a gay one, since they are so often portrayed as big, muscular, burly men. As such a big macho firefighter who can pass as straight with an inner struggle was great.
Cooper gave us a sweet romance that can easily translate to straight characters. The inner struggle of loving the wrong person, of loving someone who cannot, for whatever reason love you back is one that may resonate with many. Straight or gay, Can't Stay Away speaks to the inner romantic in all of us, who, if we are to be truthful, are suckers for second chances. The fact that Flynn was willing to give David a second chance, after David walked away from him with no explanation, says a lot about his strength of character and the kind of person he is.
Start to finish, it was a great story. This is not to say that there weren't a couple of “Are you kidding me?!” moments. I won't go in to detail as I wouldn't want to post any spoilers. However, you'll see them for yourself when you read the book. Some things make for a good story arc, even if in a real situation our handsome firefighter would have found himself fired and shipped home. The secondary characters were well written and memorable. I hope to read more about them in the future.
