This modestly-priced new companion follows very closely the grammatical and lexical prescription for Common Entrance Level 1 and is intended to serve those teachers who wish to prepare their pupils thoroughly for this paper but cannot afford to waste valuable curriculum time on superfluities. Refined in the light of three years' successful classroom trialling, "Ab Initio I" supports the slower learner whilst at the same time extending the more able. Because the explanations and examples are clear and simple, the course is particularly suited to those who have to teach pupils at different stages of Latin simultaneously. Exercises are plentiful: no longer will you be at a loss for work to set in class or for prep/homework! The approach is traditional and thorough. The skills demanded at Common Entrance - competence in reading, familiarity with grammatical terminology, language manipulation and English-into-Latin work - are rehearsed from the early stages and the A4 format and Common Entrance-style phraseology and presentation ensure that pupils are well prepared for the examination and properly grounded in the basics of the subject.
Photocopiable verb and noun grids, a detailed course guide for the teacher's reference, and periodic summaries, revision exercises and tests, all combine to make this an extremely user-friendly resource.
