The book shows how to use just four tubes of paint, to paint everything. The four colours are blue, raw sienna, burnt sienna, and olive green. Following sections that deal with colour mixing and theory, materials, and basic techniques, such as drybrush and washes, the author takes the reader through a series of 22 step-by-step demonstrations that illustrate the versatility and level of sophistication possible with four hues (and the occasional addition of an auxiliary colour, new gamboge, alizarin crimson, and ultramarine blue). These paintings are landscape scenes as diverse as Wyoming's Grand Tetons, Hawaii's tropical shores, and Indiana's peaceful farms. The book also includes information on correcting paintings that go awry, taking and working with photographs, and choosing mats and frames.
