The standard theory of multinational enterprise (MNE) emphasizes firm-level-specific assets. The central theme of this book is that MNEs are not simply a firm-specific idiosyncrasy, but display features which are dependent on industry and nationality. The book reports a comprehensive analysis of the incidence of MNE's across defined UK manufacturing industries. The authors plot the industrial organization of these firms: their market share, diversification and vertical integration. New comparisons are made between foreign-owned MNE's and the home operations of UK-owned MNE's.
