This newly illustrated edition of The Legend of the Easter Robin, written by Dandi Daley Mackall and illustrated by Richard Cowdrey, renews the wonder and charm of the timeless tale that explores the symbol of the robin and its connection to Easter.

We are very fond of Richard Cowdrey and his illustrations from our adventures with Marley the dog and his mischief. Over the last few years, I have really delighted in collecting holiday legends and stories told by Dandi Daley Mackall - the latest of these being The Legend of the Easter Robin. My children need to know that the Lenten and Easter season is about more than just eggs and a bunny. Just as the Advent and Christmas season is about more than Santa Claus and peppermint candy canes.

The day that this book arrived, I did not get it hidden fast enough to save it for a surprise for Easter, so we are already enjoying it and delighted with the illustrations of Richard Cowdrey and words from Dandi Daley Mackall. I love the colors on the cover of this book, the embossed title makes it so fancy and special for my tactile children. This one doesn't have glitter, but never fear there is plenty more of that in our Easter Book List!

The copyright for the text of this picture book is from 2010, however, it has been updated this 2016 with illustrations of Richard Cowdrey of which we are big fans in the Creative Madness Mama household. The vivid full-page, full-color pages in this book are gorgeous and ones that I know my girls are going to pour over again and again. Before reading this story, I had not heard the legend of the easter robin or the robin's red breast from Christ's blood. Nor did I know that the same Pennsylvania Dutch that tell this story are known for having brought dying eggs as a tradition. This is a great easter read to share with your children before dying eggs and for a warm, or cool spring day.
