Over the weekend of 25-27 April 1942, Bath suffered three horrifying raids at the hands of the German Luftwaffe. Over 400 people – from all walks of life – were killed, a further 1,000 injured and over 19,000 buildings were affected, of which 1,100 were seriously damaged or destroyed, including 218 of architectural or historic interest.
This book is a memorial to the city's sufferings and the bravery of its residents and, whilst it celebrates the tireless effort of the restorers of Bath’s Georgian heritage, it also illustrates the many clues that remain to this devastating period in Bath’s history. With stunning archive images from the collection of Bath in Time, alongside modern photographs by professional photographer Dan Brown, married with an informative and compelling text by historian Dr Cathryn Spence, this book will fascinate both residents and visitors alike.
